Surf Life Saving NT’s Search and Rescue Team is a new development in inshore rescue and is available as a volunteer-based service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help keep our beaches and aquatic environment safe.
The main craft used by the Search and Rescue Team is the Rescue Jetski. There are two Rescue Jetskis in Darwin, both Yamaha XL700 models, and one at Nhulunbuy, a Yamaha VX110. These craft are equipped with a Rescue Sled and carry a Rescue Tube, Vinegar, towrope, flares, tool kit, and a VHF Marine Radio.
The Northern Territory’s Surf Life Saving Clubs also operate Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs). These agile 3.8m craft are powered by 25-30 hp outboard motors equipped with propeller guards for operation near people in the water. They carry a two-person crew and provide an excellent search and rescue platform. Each IRB is equipped with a rescue tube, towrope and VHF Marine Radio. Clubs maintain at least one ‘rescue-ready’ IRB at all times.
For life-threatening marine emergencies always call 000.
For general enquiries call Surf Life Saving NT on (08) 8985 6588 during business hours.

Rescue Jetskis can be launched and recovered from many places including boatramps and beaches. They have an operating time of at least three hours and are extremely maneuverable and versatile in their operation and application.
The Rescue Jetskis are backed up by a Support Vehicle, generously sponsored by Thrifty Rent-a-Car. The Support Vehicle is a mobile base for the Team’s designated Incident Manager and carries supporting equipment for extended operations and advanced emergency care.
