Goats

Goats were among the earliest animals to be domesticated. Goat remains found in Asia tell us that this domestication happened between 6000 and 7000BC. Goat breeds can be classified into three different types – meat, dairy and fibre. Dairy breeds include Anglo-Nubian, British Alpine, Saanen and Toggenburg. Fibre breeds are Angora and Cashmere, while Boer is a meat breed.
Anglo-Nubian goats are considered the most popular. They originated in the United Kingdom as a result of cross breeding the British goat with the Egyptian or Indian descendants. Milk of these goats is ideal for cheese making because of its high butter fat content.
The Cashmere goat was artificially bred in Australia and exported to the United States of America in the 1980s. Their Cashmere fleece is very valuable.
